For four years, Grace Sullivan wrote to a Marine she never met, and fell in love. But when his deployment ended, so did the letters. Ever since that day, Grace has been coasting, academically and emotionally. The one thing she’s decided? No way is Noah Jackson — or any man — ever going to break her heart again.
Noah has always known exactly what he wants out of life. Success. Stability. Control. That’s why he joined the Marines and that’s why he’s fighting his way — literally — through college. Now that he’s got the rest of his life on track, he has one last conquest: Grace Sullivan. But since he was the one who stopped writing, he knows that winning her back will be his biggest battle yet.
This is a mature New Adult book. I see that it is classified as YA - not sure how to change that - but I wanted to be clear that it has explicit love scenes in the story.
Review:
Undeclared by Jen Frederick
Just want to start by saying how much I liked this story. I loved the way the author wrote in both main characters point of views, the main characters are terrific (Grace and Noah)
The story captures your attention from the beginning, it starts with the writing of letters between Grace a girl in school writing for a project and Noah a Marine. Their long distance relationship lasts for years. Noah and Grace are actually only a few years apart but their lives couldn't be more different. Noah coming from a poor family, mother dead a abusive father, he's pushes himself to have a better life. Grace comes from a family with money but her father died several years ago and her mom turned to antidepressants and they moved in with her cousins family, she just wants to decide what to do with her life and not be a follower. When they are finally brought together, the story captures the overwhelming feelings Noah has for Grace and his regret of hurting her when he stopped writing and Grace's sadness missing Noah. The feelings are captured of both characters and gets the reader emotionally involved in their lives. The main supporting characters Lana (Graces cousin and best friend) and Bo Noah's best friend and Marine buddy are well written with the support and love they give to their friends, both want happiness for the other. The ups and downs in Noah and Grace's relationship is written in such a way you can't help but pray for their happiness. The turning point in their relationship is explosive and you won't want to stop reading.
The end left a few items left open which I was bummed about. Noah's quest for being a self made man ( business opportunities) and where Noah and Grace's future goes for here. I am assuming their will be a book 2 if not there was a few things left hanging, I would like to see a story about Bo. Over all I enjoyed this story a lot and would highly recommend . I would give this book a 4 stars

I like it when a book is written from two different views, seems like there's more depth to the story, I would enjoy checking out Undeclared. Uconnhusky13@comcast.net, kindle format should I be lucky enough to get picked. Thank you!

What is the definition od ya anyway? Ive seen stuff for my 5th grader all the way to semi-erotica labled ya. Anyway i cant wait to read this one.
ReplyDeleteIt's a bit hard to say definitively, but YA is generally intended for adolescents/young teens and shouldn't really include steamy scenes ;)
DeleteThis sound like such a great book. I love the set up for the story and I think it will be awesome to have both viewpoints going on in the book. Cany wait to read it!

ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway, I really hope to read this! :)
ReplyDeleteThis book contains some explicit sex scenes so I definitely wouldn't say it is YA. I'm not sure how it got to be categorized as that on Goodreads, but I'm sure it is user error (meaning something I did wrong).
ReplyDeleteThank you for hosting me! I hope you all love the book. The review was lovely to read.
